Texel - View over drifting dunes and sea

Texel has a varied landscape with high dunes, vast beaches and special nature reserves. The most famous viewpoints are:

  • Bertusnol – A dune summit with sweeping views of De Muy and De Slufter.
  • The Slufter – A unique salt marsh area in open connection with the sea.
  • Bunker near Den Hoorn – A bunker overlooking the southern tip of Texel.
  • Lighthouse of Texel – From 45 metres high, you look out over the North Sea, the Wadden Sea and Vlieland.
  • Fonteinsnol – A watchtower in the middle of the forest with a view over Texel.

Terschelling - Dunes, forest and bay

Terschelling offers plenty of variety in viewpoints, from dunes to wooded areas and the famous Dellewal Bay:

  • Arjensduin – A vantage point over the dune lake of Hee.
  • Kaapsduin – One of the highest vantage points, with 360-degree views.
  • Snijderspad – A hidden vantage point among the trees
  • Seinpaalduin – Overlooking West Terschelling and the harbour.
  • Koreabos – A viewing dune with an oriëntation table.
  • Baai Dellewal – View over the only natural bay in the Netherlands.

Practical tips for your visit

Best time

Just before sunrise or during sunset, the views are often at their best.

Supplies

Binoculars can be useful to spot birds and other details in the distance.

Accessibility

Some viewpoints are accessible by bike or car, others only on foot.

Wheelchair-friendly

At certain viewpoints, such as The Slufter and the observation tower of the Nature Centre, a wheelchair ramp or lift is available.
