In the De Muy nature reserve lies the Bertusnol, a high dune with a wide view of nature. From the viewpoint at the top you look out over De Muy, De Slufter and in the distance the North Sea. The Bertusnol is ééone of Texel's highest vantage points a popular spot for nature lovers and bird watchers.
Special features:
The Slufter is a unique nature reserve that partly floods at high tide. From the lookout stairs at the edge of the area you have an impressive view of the salt marshes and the meandering creeks. The landscape changes with the seasons: in summer, sea lavender colours the plain purple, while in autumn storms flood the area.
What can you do here?
On the southern tip of Texel lies one of the island's best-preserved bunkers. This bunker, once part of the Atlantic Wall, offers a unique view over the Hors, a vast sandy plain. Here you can see how young dunes are formed. You can walk into the bunker and imagine how soldiers used to scan the horizon here.
What makes this place special?
Want to view Texel from a great height? Then climb the iconic red lighthouse at the northernmost tip of the island. After 118 steps you will be at the highest lookout point on Texel with spectacular views of the North Sea, the Wadden Sea and Vlieland.
Why visit?
In the middle of Texel's forest area De Dennen there is a wooden watchtower the Fonteinsnol. From here you have a beautiful view over the treetops, the dunes and the sea in the distance. The tower moves slightly when the wind blows hard, adding an extra experience to your visit.
