Schiermonnikoog is the smallest inhabited Wadden Island in the Netherlands, but nevertheless offers spectacular views of the Wadden Sea, the North Sea and the vast dunes. Here you will find the most beautiful spots to stop and admire the island from above.
The Wassermann bunker is a remnant from World War II and is located on one of Schiermonnikoog's highest dunes. This bunker was part of the Atlantic Wall and originally served as a radar base. Today, the bunker is freely accessible and offers spectacular views over the North Sea and the Groningen coast.
What makes this place special?
The Bank of Banck is a monumental memorial bench on the dike of Schiermonnikoog. The bench is named after Mr John E. Banck, who bought the island in 1858 and had the current dike built. From this bench you have a beautiful view of the Wadden Sea, the Banckspolder and the Westerplas.
Why visit?
Kaap Kobbeduinen is located in the eastern part of Schiermonnikoog and is one of the island's most remote and pure nature reserves. This dune area offers sweeping views of the Wadden Sea and the vast sandbanks that fall dry at low tide. It is a favourite spot for peace seekers and bird lovers, where you can experience the dynamics of the Wadden Sea in complete silence.

Cape Willemsduin is located in the eastern part of Schiermonnikoog, one of the island's most pristine areas. This wooden cape used to serve as a day mark for shipping and is still used as a reference point for national triangulation. From the promontory you have a beautiful view over the dunes and the North Sea.
